A nice definition of coaching
I often get asked what coaching is, and today I read something that offers a nice definition. It’s from an article published on http://www.forbes.com titled “The Key to Effective Coaching,” by Candice Frankovelgia:
Coaching focuses on helping another person learn in ways that let him or her keep growing afterward. It is based on asking rather than telling, on provoking thought rather than giving directions and on holding a person accountable for his or her goals.
I don’t claim to have the answers for any of my clients, but I can help them find their own answers. When they do, when the answers bubble up in their own minds and hearts, the “Aha!” is much more powerful than if I had told them anything. It’s a beautiful think to witness.
